This video is part two of my response to a thoughtful challenge asking why I believe I am the right person to serve as mayor of St. Stephen. In the previous video, I talked through the first five leadership qualities I believe matter most. Today, I continue with the remaining five and explain how they show up in real leadership and real decision making.

In this episode, I start with a focus on the importance of explaining not just what decisions are being made, but how and why. Communication is more than sharing updates. It is about helping residents understand the steps, the constraints, and the tradeoffs involved in governing a municipality.

I also talk about:
Putting residents’ needs ahead of personal ego or ambition
Serving as mayor with a mindset of service rather than entitlement
Leading with humility while still having the confidence to act
Balancing compassion with common sense and public order
Knowing when to stand up to harmful behaviour, standing up for causes, and when to stand up for council, staff, and residents

These qualities are not theoretical. They're grounded in the legal role of the mayor, the expectations set out in St. Stephen’s Code of Conduct, and the real responsibility of leading a council that works together and earns public trust.

This video is about how leadership actually functions when things are difficult, when opinions differ, and when people are watching closely. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide who you believe belongs in that chair. My goal is to be clear about how I lead, what I value, and how I intend to serve.
