Training is the future of our wildland firefighting. Not only is it the job but also it is also the duty of experienced and senior firefighters to provide quality learning experiences for the individuals that will be the future wildland firefighters and leaders.
MISSION STATEMENT: Alaska’s Wildland Fire Academies strive to build fire fighters with a strong moral compass, effective leadership, and solid firefighting fundamentals.
Through dedication to our core values and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) we will instill work ethic, professionalism, and competence; qualities that they will apply at every incident and as leaders in their future endeavors.

BASIC ACADEMY: April 21-30 | Chugiak, AK | Provides basic training in wildland suppression and fire behavior to build upon and enrich the skills acquired in Red Card training. Graduates of these Academies will have the basic qualifications to obtain employment on fuels crews, fire crews, engines and helicopter modules. Applicants accepted into the basic academy will be paid for the duration of their training. Applicants must have a valid Red Card by April 21st.
INTERMEDIATE ACADEMY: May 4-13 | Chugiak, AK | Aimed at entry-level Wildland & Fire Resource Technicians as well as EFF who have multiple years of fire experience on Crews and as Initial Attack resources. Cadets will focus on building the knowledge and capabilities to take their careers to the next level. Firefighters ready to move up to the Squad Boss/FFT1 level can apply on the DOF training website.
