The Maserati Gran Cabrio, just like its coupe brother the GranTurismo, sits on the Giorgio Sport Platform, which has it’s connections to other Stellantis products, but it’s been heavily modified by Maserati to live up to the brand’s standards and give you that balance of driving dynamics and high comfort that’s Maserati is known form.

Suspension-wise we have a double wishbone front, multilink back, combined with air springs and adaptive dampers. That means that not only can you change the stiffness or damping of the suspension, but also, depending on the driving mode, the ride hight will change.

As of brakes, they’re provided by Brembo - we get 6-piston front calipers, out back we have a 4-piston setup and it is a brake-by-wire setup.

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to a Ferrari-derived naturally aspirated V8 from the previous generation, and we get a 6-cylinder Nettuno engine.

It’s a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 which in this Trofeo variant makes 542 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, in the regular GranCabrio it’s slightly detuned, giving you 483 horses. There is also a fully electric Folgore variant available with 751 hp but that a subject for another review.

The Nettuno V6 uses F1-derived technologies - it has a dual, port and direct injection, dual spark plugs, and a pre-combustion chamber, which goal is to pre-ignite and have more efficient combustion process.

We have an 8-speed ZF 8HP automatic transmission, which transfers the power and all gas using a rear-biased AWD system with an e-LSD. If we compare it the previous model, the car isn’t RWD anymore, but people want AWD in everything right now so Maserati did that as well.

Pricing starts at $167,100 and tops at over $250,000.
