Potassium nitrite from potassium nitrate and lead

Описание: About 5 months ago, I performed this synthesis on 1 mole (same as in this video) and 3 mole scales, but I stopped when the potassium nitrite, after adding alcohol and evaporating and repeating this process until the last addition of alcohol, separated in a paste that solidified as a hard chunk when I evaporated to dryness. I think I got annoyed with the process or sidetracked by another project because I still have the two beakers containing the potassium nitrite in plastic bags. In the future video using this procedure except with sodium nitrate, I'm going to use a slightly modified procedure to try and decrease the amount of impurities in the final product. Sodium nitrite should be much more easily isolated than potassium nitrite, so I don't think making the video will take very long. I don't know if I'll get the necessary reagents for the titrations by then, but time will tell.

The procedure also says that when it's required for use, to dissolve 1 part of it in 2 parts of water, cautiously neutralize it with acetic acid, and filter it.

There are several other videos that show the synthesis of isopropyl nitrite using sodium nitrite, an acid, and isopropyl alcohol that I'm not going to link. Isopropyl nitrite burns with a white flame, which is why some people synthesized it.
