In 1979 the Islamic Revolution broke out in Iran, toppling the Pahlavi Monarchy and giving birth to a Theocratic Islamic Republic which governs Iran to this day. When the Revolution is spoken of, attention is almost always exclusively centered on Khomeini and the Clergy, and their struggle against the Secularization of Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi. But there is a lot more to the Iranian Revolution than the failure of Westernization, and by examining this period of Iranian History, one would come to the conclusion that any kind of Revolution was perhaps inevitable.
