Next to Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Shishigashira may be my favorite tree name, but that's not what makes this ornamental tree so great. Here, you will see the great leaves of Acer palmatum 'Shishigashira' in early spring. The unique characteristics in its leaf and branch structure create a true sculptural presence in the garden. Commonly known as Lion's Head Maple, this particular tree is positioned in full sun in climate zone 6b. It has deep green coloring once the leaves mature and vibrant orange/red colors in the fall. A true specimen planting!
