The first day of the second phase of power bill agitation taken up by Congress witnessed a high voltage drama after Vasco police did not allow the burning of the effigy of Power minister Nilesh Cabral outside the Vidyut Bhavan in Vasco .
A huge police force was deployed on site at Vidyut Bhavan on Friday as the Congress leaders gathered to protest and submit a memorandum over the exhorbitant power bills. After a memorandum was submitted by GPCC Sankalp Amonkar to the electrical officials , the effigy which was kept outside the Vidyut Bhavan was picked by Vasco police stirring a chaos amongst the people and Congress workers. Vasco police also told the people to disperse from the location but the Congress workers kept put and demanded that the effigy be given back as the protest was to be ended by burning of the effigy of Nilesh Cabral.
An angry Amonkar later speaking to media said that Power Minister Nilesh Cabral had made a statement that Congress should come to Curchorem for a debate.
" Cabral must remember that he is the minister of the state and not only of Curchorem. I challenge Cabral that we will go across all Talukas and Cabral must come there and if he is scared of us he must accept it instead of issuing statement like this . We condemn the incident where the police have taken our effigy which is taking our basic right to protest and burn the effigy of Cabral who is responsible for this state of Goans. In the past we have burned the effigies of even the PM Narendra Modi and no one can take away our rights. We will continue this agitation across all taluka and we will also go to Curchorem and Cabral must be ready to face the anger of public " said Amonkar
