Three convenience stores. Three fried chickens. One afternoon.
Japan's conbini hot food counters are an institution — open 24 hours, under ¥250, ready before you even ask. Every major chain has their own version of fried chicken, and they're all slightly different. So I picked one from each and ate them back to back.
What I tried:
Lawson — Lチキ レギュラー (L-Chiki Regular) ¥248
FamilyMart — ファミチキ 骨なし (Famichiki Boneless) ¥248
7-Eleven — ななチキ (Nana-Chiki) ¥232
Famichiki has sold over 2 billion units since 2006. Karaage Kun has been at Lawson since 1986. These aren't fast food items — they're part of how a lot of people in Japan eat on a regular day.
The ranking is at the end.
