What is herbal porridge??
It is a kind herbal soup or porridge, prepared with raw rice, coconut milk and made up of green leaves which is used as nutritious wholesome. In Sri Lanka this is popular as KOLAKANDA (in Sinhala). Most of Sri Lankans and visitors used to have as a traditional breakfast. Below are some of the popular herbal leaves that they used to make KOLAKANDA.
Commonly used plants for preparation of kola kanda:
Polpala – Avera lantana
Gotukola – Centalla asiatica
Karapincha – Murraya koenigi
Hatawariya – Asparagus racemosus
Wepenela – Cordiospermum halicacabum
Mukunuwenna – Altenanthera sessilis
Iramusu – Hemidesmus indicus
Kathurumurunga – Sesbania grandiflora
Ranawara – Cassia auriculate
