Sir Tim Hunt is known for discovering cyclins, and he won the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine. In this plenary lecture, he walked the audience through his illustrious career, from his early research on understanding how haem controls globin synthesis in red blood cells to studying protein synthesis in sea urchin, clam and frog oocytes. He later made the switch from protein synthesis to cell division. In his lecture, he also shared his mentors' role in his career and the joy he found working with like-minded colleagues, discussing projects and learning about their diverse fields.
