Join me on an adventure across the China–Vietnam border, full of surprising moments and unexpected interactions with locals. They were really surprised when I spoke Vietnamese to them, and it quickly turned into some lovely and memorable conversations.
What started as a simple border crossing soon became a chance to connect with people along the way. We talked, shared smiles, and experienced a few spontaneous moments that you can only find when traveling and being open to meeting new people.
Along the journey we also tried some local Chinese food, stopped by a Vietnamese café near the border, and spent time chatting with friendly locals who were curious about where I came from and where I was going next.
These are the moments that make travel so special — learning about other people’s lives, sharing cultures and languages, and seeing everyday life in places most travelers simply pass through. Sometimes the best parts of a journey happen in the most unexpected places.
