Canada's health-care system has faced a summer of difficulties, with hospital emergency room closures being announced weekly, staffing shortages and unprecedented wait times.
As part of our series "Code Blue," Global News recently spent the day inside one emergency department in Toronto — and found the emergency room capacity crunch is a symptom of a much larger problem.
As Jeff Semple explains, a shortage of family doctors is sending more patients to hospitals as they seek treatment for things a family physician could normally help with.
