Did you know that back in 1914, there was a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution to make divorce illegal? Even today, the Constitution doesn't explicitly grant a right to divorce, it's an issue left to individual states to regulate. Back in the early 1900s, divorce was rare and considered scandalous due to societal expectations and church influence. State laws were also much stricter, placing many legal obstacles in the way of couples wanting to separate. And this proposed amendment aimed to completely eliminate any possibility of legal divorce across the entire nation.
