Hi All,
its been a while since the last entry, I was busy. Here is the in depth review of my Peavey Backstage Plus.
I bought this amp for around 85 EUR, and turned out it is STICK MIC HEAVEN. I can dial in totally useable gig sounds, let it be a crappy, unmatched karaoke mic or my personal favourite EV 635A matched, the Peavey Backstage Plus can deliver. This one is 35 watts, solid state from 1987. The volume is good enough for home practice and small, to mid sized gigs. I tried this one live on a huge and loud stage, where it struggled. (I struggled too, because I do not like loud playing and way too loud stages and gigs)
The effect loop can be used as line out, which is way darker sounding then the stock speaker, which led me to rather mic the amp up. I'm not planning to switch the original speaker soon, it is totally fine.
This is my first Peavey amp. I understand now why these vintage amps are still around, why some claim to hate or love them. Finding the right tonal spot or range can take way more time and patience than what you would expect. That is why probably some people hate these vintage Peaveys. But once you learn it, its a gem and also a reliable workhorse.
I hooked it up with a strat, gave plenty of reverb and a guitar bro started playing some blues riffs. Instant Junior Kimbrough like, chimey, smoky sounds. So this amp will surely do some studio work for the guitar player bro.
Thats all,
Big G out.
