Four years of California drought have forced many growers to pump groundwater to irrigate their crops. To study the use of farmland to recharge groundwater during the winter, UC Davis and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources scientists took advantage of January storms to flood a dormant almond orchard near Modesto.
