Henry Tylbor was an independent scholar whose many interests were linguistics, neuropsychology, history, and studies in philosophy including phenomenology. He was one of the youngest survivors of the Warsaw ghetto uprising and multiple concentration camps. Later he settled in New York and wrote a series of stories on pre-war Warsaw and the war years. He had a penchant for languages and spoke seven fluently and attended classes with the influential Russian linguist Roman Jakobson at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At that time, Tylbor was persuaded to study with Professor A.J. Greimas at the University of Paris. While he was in Paris, he became interested in neuropsychology and went to Saint-Anne Hospital Center to study aphasia, which affects memory loss.

He has translated many foreign books as well as travelled in Europe to search for European authors for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc. He was the co-author of an article “On the Necessity of Collusion in Conversation” in the book “Dialogic Emergence of Culture", published by University of Illinois Press. During these years, he lectured at many major universities including Brown University, Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania on the experience of war.
