Sleep isn’t just about rest, it’s a core component of mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. Long-term sleep issues can deeply impact your mood, energy, and emotions. In this video, Dr Gunjan talks about how childhood trauma (a risk factor for Complex Trauma or CPTSD), could influence insomnia.
Research shows that individuals with high childhoodtrauma compared to low and medium childhood trauma often experience poor sleep quality and increased irritability. Those who are single, separated, or feeling lonely are also at a higher risk of sleep disturbances. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, or just trying to feel better emotionally, the sleep quality is a core area that needs to be worked on by resolving the underlying issues.
The good news is that- sleep can be improved, even if you have a history of childhood trauma trauma. Individuals with high levels of trauma take a bit longer to come back to their desired level of sleep. Sleep can also be improved with the help of tools like self-regulation, humming, and slow breathing to support better sleep naturally.
