Extremely interesting deep-sea giant leptocephals were described, which very rarely fall into the hands of scientists. The largest recorded eel larva was 200 cm long.
It has been suggested that the giant leptocephals may have been the larvae of giant eels, whose rare appearance on the surface is interpreted as the observation of a "sea serpent".
