In late July, Union Pacific 4-8-4 #844 led the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days train with UP diesel #1943 assisting. With 700 passengers on board, 844 raced from Denver to Cheyenne for the opening day of the "Daddy of 'em All" - the Frontier Days Rodeo, before returning to Denver in the late afternoon. This video has scenes from the Thursday positioning move to Denver and the actual CFD train on Saturday. A tragic accident ended the trip just north of Denver on Saturday evening, and 844 was unable to pull the train back to Cheyenne on Sunday as originally planned. Nonetheless the big four-eight-four put on a great show for the throngs of admirers gathered trackside.
