Rovaniemi is pure winter magic – snow-covered forests, Arctic adventures and cosy Nordic vibes. If you’re planning a trip (or watching our vlog!), here’s a handy guide based on our experience.


❄️ Things We Did

There’s no shortage of once-in-a-lifetime experiences in Rovaniemi:

✨ Northern Lights safari – absolutely unreal and worth the late nights

🎅 Santa Claus Village – festive, fun and right on the Arctic Circle

🦌 Reindeer ride – calm, traditional and very scenic

🏍️ Snowmobile ride – fast, freezing and so much fun

🐕 Husky ride – energetic, loud and unforgettable

🐎 Horse trail – peaceful and magical through the snowy forest



🧣 What to Wear (This Is Important!)

Layering is key – it gets very cold:
• Good base layers (thermal under top & fleece leggings)
• Top layer waterproof trousers/ski pants
• 2 pairs of socks or thermal socks
• Good quality, waterproof boots
• Jumpers
• A really good coat, waterproof
• Gloves and mittens
• Some sort of head covering (hat or balaclava)
• Scarf
• Hand and feet heater pad


⚠️ Be mindful that any fur can get wet and cold, which makes it uncomfortable in extreme temperatures.


🚕 Transport
• Uber is the easiest option and widely available
• We paid around £23 per ride
• If you get an apartment close to town, it’s very easy to walk
• Our apartment was a 20-minute walk from the town centre (according to Google Maps) and it felt very safe
• Most activity pick-ups are from town, so staying nearby can save money
• Santa Claus Village is right near the airport, which is super convenient



🧑‍🤝‍🧑 The People & Practical Tips
• People are really friendly and helpful
• Everyone speaks excellent English
• When food shopping, you’ll be charged a €0.20 tax on plastic bottles
• Save your bottles and return them at the end of your trip to get some money back ♻️
• Food shopping is expensive, and in general Finland isn’t a cheap country to travel to, so budget accordingly
