My original vision for this tune was to channel some Ellington vibes and do a really thick sax section soli, accompanied by some trombone parts! That didn't end up working out for various reasons, so I instead decided to repurpose the arrangement for a sax section plus two clarinets and rhythm section. The sax voicings along with the clarinet in the beginning of the tune are actually SUPER harmonically dense... but they fit the style pretty well! The Freddie Green guitar chunks along with the brushes on the snare drum really help keep driving the arrangement forward, I think, which is what the original tune needed. I had a lot of fun experimenting with different solo and soli combinations of instruments between the saxes and the clarinets that I used :)

I also can't write this description without mentioning my adorable pup Looker! My family got Looker from a breeder on Halloween, so he's been living with me, my mom, and my dad for the past month and a half! He turned 3 months old on December 12th, and is so gosh dang cute. I knew I wanted to feature him in a video somehow, so I thought I'd try to get him to sit on my lap in front of a green screen to simulate us hanging out at a beach together. He didn't quite sit still the whole time, but... that's what puppies do! He is named after Looker, the International Policeman from Pokémon Platinum (yes, I love that game that much I named my pet after a character in the game). BUT that's not where the puns stop! He's a beagle, so he often just stares off in the distance at birds or people moving, so he's a "look"er in that way... and he's also really cute, so he's a looker! Triple layer pun! I am happy with that name.
