Mr. Ant Nel, young Mackenzies grand dad, has been patrolling the waters of the Umzimkulu for kingfish since the season started a few months back. And has got more than his quote for sure, racking up doubles on almost every trip.

They are GTs, tiny but so handsome in their splendid silver. The greenspots are fast and furious with colours to match. Really juvenile blacktips also feature in Ants recent species list.

But on this day, the goal posts were shifted back a few hundred yards as Mackenzie, all 8yrs of her, won a epic battle with biggest GT we have ever seen in the Umzimkului River. Sure, that is only about 5 or 6kgs but on a bass rod, it sure gave Mackenzie sore arms as it pulled and pulled and nearly pulled her right in!

Luckily, a very cool, calm and collected granddad was there to expertly coach Mackenzie during her big moment. Every kid should watch this video a few times as Mackenzie makes the little mistakes we all did as kids. Ant gently guides her back in line with encouraging instructions. Excellent teaching style Ant, where did you learn that from?

But ok, the season, and the water, is warming up. The day this fish came out the water was 24.5 degrees!
