In this weekends video I visit the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh. It is one of the best living museums I have ever visited and as a social history was probably one of the best visits I've had in my life!
Join me as I explore the Old World section of the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, Northern Ireland. In this video, we journey through authentic 19th-century Irish buildings — including the Mellon Homestead, Campbell House, Hughes House, Squatter’s Cottage, and the Ulster High Street with its Mountjoy Post Office, Hill’s Chemist, RJ Blair Stationers, and William Murray & Co.
With millions of Irish emigrants leaving their homeland during the 18th and 19th centuries, many never returned. This video explores the places, people, and decisions they may have seen or made before their journey across the Atlantic to the New World.
Don’t miss next week’s episode, where we continue the story into the New World and trace the emigration journey across the Atlantic to 19th Century Baltimore and beyond!
Hello, if you are new here I am Lucy, Social Historian and your serially nosy friend, this is my first time travelling away from the mainland UK to make a video and I am so happy you have come with me, I plan, record, edit, research and publish all my own videos weekly, hopefully to somewhere you will find interesting. Please join the amazing community of social history lovers in the comments who generously share their own love of history through lived experience and memories - it's brilliant!
