(7 Jan 1995) More than 1,000 people rallied outside the parliament buildings in
the Dagestan capital of Makhachkala on Saturday (7/1) to protest
against the Russian military action in Chechnya.
Dagestan borders Chechnya and has become a refuge for many who have fled the fighting. Makhachkala is on the Caspian Sea about 140 kilometres east of Grozny.
