Rihanna was born in Barbados and grew up in a small bungalow. She lived in a troubled home with low income. Rihanna had a difficult childhood because she was constantly dealing with the drama from her parents' marital problems and her dad's constant battle with drug and alcohol.
Her father would often come home drunk after using all his paycheck on drug and alcohol and beat her mother. when Rihanna was just 8 years old, she started suffering intense headaches that led to many exams. The doctor thought that Rihanna might have a tumor. But after her parents got divorced, the headaches stopped.
At school, things weren’t much better. She was constantly bullied by the kids over her light complexion – due to her father’s Irish descendence. Because of the bullying Rihanna got a reputation for being painfully shy.

How her life changed?

At 15 Rihanna fought her shyness and won her high school beauty pageant for singing Mariah Carey's "Hero."
When she was 16 she caught the eye of the American record producer, Evan Rogers. Soon, Rogers and Rihanna recorded her first demo of the song "Pon de Replay" that was sent to many different record companies. But, luckily one of them belonged to the famous rapper Jay Z, so the demo landed on his desk.
In just a decade she build her hard-earned career. She became a successful entrepreneur, singer, actress and fashion idol.. Rihanna has sold over 540 million albums worldwide. She won eight Grammy Awards from 24 nominations. Also Rihanna is the youngest solo artist to score 14 Billboard music hits. But, among the many awards and successes, she's also a humanitarian and has a good heart.. In 2006 She formed the Believe Foundation to help terminally ill children.
One reason why Rihanna is so successful today, despite the very difficult problems she had growing up, and the personal hardships she suffered after her fame is that she stayed true to herself.
