3-Part Documentary Series (Past, Present, Future)
Episode 1: Past – Echoes from the Mountain
In the rugged landscapes of Cape Town, South Africa, the story of human-baboon coexistence begins centuries ago. This episode traces the historical roots of the conflict, long before the arrival of Dutch settlers in the 1650s. Through expert interviews and archaeological insights, we explore how the Khoisan people interacted with baboons — as neighbours, co-survivors, and possibly as a food source. The episode reveals how colonial expansion, such as the creation of the first gardens, disrupted ecosystems and triggered the earliest tensions with wildlife.
Episode 2: Present – Collision Course
In today’s Simon’s Town, baboons are daily visitors — and divisive figures. Through field observation, testimonies, and community voices, this episode captures the complexity of modern coexistence. Baboons raid restaurants, adapt to urban life, and pass behaviours across generations. Residents are divided: some view baboons as pests, others as protected wildlife. The town is at a crossroads, struggling between fear, tolerance, and conservation.
Episode 3: Future – Coexistence or Crisis?
Can humans and baboons share a town sustainably? This final episode explores future solutions — from education and better waste management to relocation strategies and electric fencing. Rather than choosing sides, "Baboon Town" invites viewers to imagine a balanced path forward, grounded in understanding, science, and shared responsibility.
