A union spokesman confirmed to Sportsnet on Thursday that the NHLPA board voted to release the results of an independent report on the union's conduct in connection with the Kyle Beach investigation.

The report will be released on NHLPA Friday morning, an NHLPA spokesman said.

The NHLPA leadership team consists of one player representative from each of the league's 32 teams. A PA spokesperson declined to say the final number of yes or no votes, or the number of players who voted.

Representatives of team members received the report on Friday and held a board meeting Monday where investigators discussed their findings, according to an NHLPA spokesperson.

The report was made public because at least 18 of the 32 player representatives voted in favor. The voting period is open until Thursday night.

It's unclear how many players voted for or against the disclosure.

"Only a review of the entire report can provide an accurate picture of the extensive work and findings of the independent investigators," NHLPA spokesman Jonathan Wetherden, who was contacted by Sportsnet, said in a written statement Wednesday.

The vote comes six months after NHLPA executive director Donald Fair suggested the union hire an outside lawyer to conduct an independent investigation into how it handled Beech's sexual assault allegations. The NHLPA then voted to commission an investigation.

Beach said he was sexually assaulted by former team video coach Brad Aldridge during the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs when he was a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. The group hired Chicago law firm Jenner & Block to investigate the allegations. Her Shell report, released in October 2021, sparked public thinking about how the beach case was handled, hockey culture itself, and the often-failed system of attacking survivors.
