Deep Snow Walk in Gokayama Mountain Villages | Toyama, Japan

Описание: Walking in heavy snow through the traditional thatched roof villages of Gokayama, Ainokura and Suganuma, in the mountains of Toyama, Japan. These little villages are some of the few remaining so well preserved, and together with Shirakawa-go make up a UNESCO World Heritage site. The two villages we walk this morning have just a few houses, some converted into accommodation, some vacant, and a couple with small shops for the many visitors that come to the region. These mountains get a lot of snow, and with a storm passing through there was a lot of it on the ground and on the steep roofs of buildings. Residents keep some of the walkways clear, making a maze of snow walls to navigate the village paths. The path leading to the second village of Suganuma had yet to be cleared so the snow was nearly up to my waist. This was a great morning walking in two of Japan's most beautiful villages in a beautiful mountain landscape, I hope you enjoy.
