The Judge did not want her 30-year-old son Justin dating the victim, or keeping her dog.
Justin decided to rebel and had the victim's dog at the place he was staying with his young son, and he continued to see the victim.
Then, on a bad night of arguments, the dog interfered in the argument and defended its owner - with a somewhat minor bite to Justin's leg.
Justin gets mad and wants to do harm to the dog - to "protect" everyone.
The victim/owner locks herself and the dog into the master bedroom.
Justin gets mad - gets his AK and then shoots through the closed door - hitting the young lady twice. He is taken to the station for an interview - but then his mother, Circuit Court Judge Barbara Hobbs, who at that time was handling the criminal division (felonies), showed up, and, in order to see her son, she decided to be his lawyer. What ensues is somewhat tragic and comedic - and a perfect example of why lawyers (whether judges or not) should refrain from representing family members.

Justin Haynes is the adult son of Florida Circuit Court Judge Barbara Hobbs. Mr. Haynes was taken to the police station for interrogation purposes on or about July 29, 2019, with respect to a shooting at his home.

Judge Barbara Kaye Hobbs is a Circuit Court Judge in the Second Judicial Circuit, Florida.
When her adult eldest son was allegedly involved in the above domestic shooting (he allegedly shot at a visitor, his ex-girlfriend, and her dog who were hiding in a bedroom during an argument). Haynes alleges the dog bit him.

Judge Hobbs intervened, consulted with her son at the police station prior to his interrogation, sat with her son during his interrogation and acted as his lawyer, and admitted to other judicial cannon violations related to issues surrounding the case against her son.
