Part One: Queer Activism in Kansas City – Foundations Before Stonewall
Presented by Stuart Hinds | Hosted by Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC)
📍 Recorded May 2025 | 🎤 4-Part Lecture Series
Join us for Part One of this illuminating four-part lecture series led by Stuart Hinds, co-founder of the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America (GLAMA). In this opening installment, Hinds offers a brief but essential look at queer activism in Kansas City, Missouri before the 1960s—and then dives deep into the often-overlooked but vibrant history of the local LGBTQIA+ community.
Discover how Kansas City played a pivotal role in early organizing efforts, long before the Stonewall uprising. From underground networks to the first public expressions of resistance and solidarity, this session unearths the foundations of queer identity and activism in the heart of the Midwest.
🎞️ Stay tuned for Parts 2–4, where we continue exploring KC’s bold, resilient, and radical queer history.
