Allow me to make the case that your go-to casual pants should be a pair of olive green fatigues. Your jeans are still safe, the title is pretty much just a hot take for clickbait, although I definitely prefer fatigues.
To me, fatigues are just as versatile as denim, age just as well, and often look cooler. They're also more comfortable, partly because the fabrics are softer in my experience, and partly because those gigantic pockets really speak to me. They're usually higher rise than jeans, and don't look weird like high rise jeans sometimes look. And the pocket outline does the same job as the five pocket layout on your favorite jeans, signaling that they're casual, and something beyond your basic khakis.
They're kind of like cargo pants, but without the negative connotations, and dramatically easier to style.

Secondhand and Milsurp are the best budget options.
@bronsonmfg and @stanrayusa are very affordable too.
Higher end options include @imogeneandwillie, @doublerl, @orslow, and @universal_works. Oh, and of course, @engineered_garments_official! Check out @stagprovisions or @canoeclub, among other stores, for more options from the same brands.
@buckmason's "baker pants" are fatigue-adjacent, but without the pocket outline. They also have women's fatigues, and a pair of drawstring linen fatigues that are pretty cool.
