Freedom flotilla sets sail towards Gaza

A freedom flotilla is sailing towards Gaza in an effort to challenge Israel’s blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians facing severe shortages.

The sailboat Madleen, carrying 12 international activists, including prominent figures such as Greta Thunberg, departed Sicily, Italy, and is currently en route to Gaza.

The mission aims to open a humanitarian corridor into the besieged enclave.

Home to over two million people, Gaza remains under an Israeli-imposed blockade that has severely restricted the flow of food, fuel, and medical supplies.

Human rights groups and UN agencies have warned of worsening famine and the collapse of basic services amid ongoing Israeli atrocities, bombardments, and the bombing of civilians in the enclave.

Supporters gathered at the Port of Catania to welcome the Madleen, with local organisers, artists, and civil society groups rallying in support of the mission.

The flotilla is expected to approach Gaza on Sunday.
