Plot Summary

Five years after the devastating Battle of Chicago, the Transformers are now hunted fugitives on Earth.

The government has terminated its alliance with the Autobots, and a covert CIA unit called "Cemetery Wind" is systematically hunting down all remaining Transformers, both Autobot and Decepticon, with the help of a powerful and mysterious new Transformer called Lockdown.

The story shifts to a new protagonist, Cade Yeager, a struggling inventor and single father in rural Texas. He and his business partner Lucas buy a rusty old truck, which Cade discovers is a wounded Optimus Prime, in hiding and losing faith in humanity.

When Cemetery Wind tracks Optimus to Cade's farm, Cade, his daughter Tessa, and her secret race car driver boyfriend Shane are thrust into the global conflict.They are pursued by Cemetery Wind's ruthless leader, Harold Attinger, and his field agent, James Savoy. The humans are aided by the remaining, hidden Autobots: Bumblebee, Hound, Drift, and Crosshairs.

The plot reveals that Cemetery Wind is secretly collaborating with the arrogant CEO Joshua Joyce of the tech company KSI. Using the metal from deceased Transformers (a substance they call "Transformium"), KSI has learned to create their own man-made Transformers, controlled by humans. Their flagship prototype is Galvatron, built from the salvaged head of Megatron and unknowingly imbued with his consciousness.

As Optimus Prime seeks to uncover the truth and reunite with his "creators," he is captured by Lockdown, who reveals he works for the original creators and is hunting Optimus for treason. The climax takes placein Hong Kong, where Galvatron awakens, rebelling against his human controllers and leading a new army of Decepticon-like drones. Optimus Prime must break free, rally the Autobots, and join forces with Cade and the humans to stop Galvatron and Lockdown from deploying a planet-destroying "seed" that would harvest Earth's resources to build new Transformers.

The film ends with Galvatron escaping, vowing to return, and Optimus Prime taking the dormant seed and flying into deep space to confront his creators, sending a message that he is coming for them.
