The Caledonian Pub - Scotland in Toronto

With the impressive variety of international restaurants and bars in Toronto it only makes sense that the GCAT crew stumbled upon a traditional Scottish Pub. Aptly called the Caledonian it can be found on College Street and is a hit with locals and Scots alike.

Two things struck us as we walked into the bar, the first was the warm welcome from the bar maids and the second was the impressive display of single malt whiskeys covering the wall behind the bar. They currently have 120 different varieties of malt whiskey with even more in the works. They've only been open for 14 months and already they have won Now Magazines Best Pub or Bar, Best Pub Food and Best Fish and Chips for College Street and in 2011 The Caledonian even received the Quaich Award for having one of the finest Malt Whiskey lists in the world.

The menu offers classics such as Haggis Neeps and Tatties to Scotch Eggs, and yes even deep fried Mars bars. The Haggis is so popular that they serve over 100 lbs per month! Their Chef Michel Nadeau creates daily specials using local, organic produce, as well as Canadian Classics.

As we sampled a few of the Scottish ales on tap we spoke with one of the owners Donna Wolff who made us feel like a long lost friend. With a log fire crackling in the corner, pictures of highland cattle on the walls, and maps of Scotland you won't find a more authentic Scottish pub in all of Canada. Even after only one visit you'll be wanting to call this place your 'local'. Go out of your way to stop in, and say a big Hello to Donna for us. Sláinte!
