In a thrilling showdown at Sullivan Arena, the Anchorage Wolverines edged out the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 2-1 after a tense shootout, much to the delight of the 2,800 fans in attendance. The opening goal came at 08:53 of the first period when Andrew Karkoc, assisted by Duke Gentzler, slid one past the Ice Dogs' goaltender Mason McElroy, setting the pace for a fiercely contested game. The Ice Dogs retaliated in the third period with Ian Christian leveling the score at 08:51, sneaking one past Wolverines' goalie Kai Weigel. The game continued to be a goaltender's duel as both McElroy and Weigel were stellar between the pipes, with Weigel making 31 saves on 32 shots, earning him the first star of the game. As the final whistle blew on regulation, neither team could find the net in overtime. The game proceeded to a shootout where the Wolverines outscored the Ice Dogs, thanks to shootout goals from Chase Trompeter and Aiden Lawson. The game was not without its penalties, with Anchorage amassing 25 penalty minutes and Fairbanks 23, including a spirited brawl at 19:45 of the second period. Despite the penalty woes, both teams held firm on the penalty kill, with no powerplay goals conceded. This victory marks another notch in Anchorage's recent winning streak.
