Important to note the way the madhyamakAla swaram is developed in incrementals of 1 and more time cycles of the tAla.
The Thani is an extension of the song rendered, and is presented in small segments by Sri Mani Iyer and Sri Alangudi Ramachandran. The absence of a big kOrvai is not at all felt given the superlative development of the various rhythmic patterns. The crispness and the clarity with which it is presented, is another highlight.
Note the appreciation from GN sir during the thani and mind you all this in an AIR environment ( where generally these are avoided ) - avarrai meree bale Sabash vandhuvittadhu ( BALE! SABASH ! came without any inhibitions and it was an heartfelt appreciation for the way the thani was played ).
