Описание: Franz Schubert (1797-1828): Sonata ("Sonatine") for violin and piano No.2, a-minor D.385
Allegro moderato 0:00, Andante 6:41, Menuetto Allegro - Trio 12:15, Allegro 12:32
Fazil Say is a real but somewhat taciturn gentleman and one gets the impression that his greatest happiness happens in music. He once remarked that with Patricia Kopatchinskaja they shared a similar way of "being in the music".

The Kopatchinskaja/Say collaboration started with their famous 2008 Naive recording which included the Beethoven Kreutzer and the Ravel Sonata. From 2012 they did not anymore play together until this 2021 concert in Gstaad which was their first collaboration after 9 years. And this Schubert was the first piece they played together.

Even for this remarkable two players it was a rare moment of inspiration. Patricias unusual position on the right side of the stage made her face the pianist and facilitated an unusual degree of effortless communication. Every moment had meaning and the incomparably moving spirit of Schubert was present.

There are many films about famous interpreters, Callas, Bernstein, Mozart, Paganini, where actors train for some months to sing, to conduct, or to play piano or violin. Invariably such attempts fail and remain utterly unconvincing, because of the manifest inability of actors to be musicians. Glueing a nose upon a face does not produce a Bernstein.

Even professional musicians often only deliver the right sounds in the right order without understanding or expressing their meaning and without making the audience feel anything.

And even talents of the century like Fazil Say and Patricia Kopatchinskaja do not always succeed to attain the best of their abilities or to force the presence of the spirit on the stage in a given moment.

Here everything falls into place, a rare moment of grace.

It is a fact that videos of the big and overly well-known violin concertos get ten times more views than such works of chamber music even if the latter are somehow more intimate, refined, meaningful and moving and let the violinist show a greater and more individualistic palette of expression.

The location is the remarkable St.Mauritius church of Saanen where Yehudi Menuhin had started his Gstaad Festival in 1957. Concert from 7. August 2021.
