Описание: The lovely Madras High Court is one of the most recognisable buildings in Chennai.
This 127-year-old building, which oversees the junction of the erstwhile Broadway and First Line
Beach, is distinctive for its tall, regal domes atop its brick red exteriors.But this building was not the first location of the Madras High Court. A quick backstory here: In the early 19th century, the Madras Presidency, under the British, had a Supreme Court of Madras located opposite the Chennai Beach railway station. That Supreme Court functioned from 1817 to 1862, when Queen Victoria of England mandated that High Courts be established in the cities of Madras, Bombay, and Calcutta. And so the Madras High Court was born. And for another 30 years, the High Court worked out of the same building.
