Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) Movie | Daniel Radcliffe | Review And Facts
Plot
The film opens with the infant Harry Potter being left on the doorstep of his cruel, non-magical (Muggle) aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, after his parents are murdered by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. Harry miraculously survived the attack, leaving him with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead.
For ten years, Harry is treated as an outcast, forced to live in a cupboard under the stairs. On the eve of his 11th birthday, mysterious letters begin arriving for him, which the Dursleys frantically try to keep from him. The letters are invitations to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is rescued by the gentle half-giant Rubeus Hagrid, who reveals the truth: Harry is a wizard, his parents were murdered by Voldemort, and he is famous in the wizarding world as "The Boy Who Lived."Thrilled to escape his miserable life, Harry enters the magical world, shopping for supplies in Diagon Alley and finally arriving at Hogwarts via the Hogwarts Express from the hidden Platform 9%. On the train, he meets Ron Weasley, a boy from a large, warm-hearted but poor wizarding family, and Hermione Granger, a brilliant and determined Muggle-born witch. Upon arrival, the students are sorted into one of four school houses by the magical Sorting Hat. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all placed in Gryffindor, known for its bravery and chivalry.
Harry's first year at Hogwarts is filled with wonder, friendship, and the discovery of Quidditch, a fast-paced, high-flying sport which he proves to be a natural at. However, a darker plot soon emerges. Harry learns of the Philosopher's Stone, an object that can grant immortality and turnany metal into gold, which is being hidden somewhere within Hogwarts.
He suspects that Professor Snape, the sinister Potions master, is trying to steal it for Lord Voldemort, who is lurking in a weakened form, desperate to regain power.
Convinced that the Stone is in danger, Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to take matters into their own hands. They navigate a series of magical enchantments and traps set by the teachers to guard the Stone, with each using their unique skills to overcome the challenges. In the final chamber, Harry discovers that the true villain is not Snape, but the timid Professor Quirrell. Lord Voldemort is living as a parasitic face on the back of Quirrell's head.
Quirrell attempts to seize the Stone from the Mirror of Erised, but Harry's desire to find the Stone but not use it allows him to retrieve it from themirror. When Quirrell tries to touch Harry, his skin burns and blisters-a lingering magical protection from his mother's sacrificial love. Harry is nearly overpowered but is saved by Professor Dumbledore's timely arrival. Voldemort's spirit flees, and Quirrell dies.
The school year ends with Gryffindor winning the House Cup thanks to the trio's bravery. Harry returns to the Dursleys for the summer, but now with the knowledge that he has a true home and a loving family in his friends at Hogwarts.
