Structured settlements have there place in personal injury practice. A structured settlement is when a portion of the settlement proceeds is used to purchase an annuity that will make periodic payments to the injured patient over a defined period of time. Many times structures are used in the settlement of minor's claims, claims for the disabled, and with people who receive governmental benefits.
