Madhya Pradesh has introduced India’s first elevated red road marking on a national highway to enhance wildlife safety. Implemented by NHAI on a 2-km stretch of NH-45 passing through the Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve, the initiative is part of an 11.9-km highway expansion project.
The 5-mm elevated red surface alerts motorists upon entering a wildlife-sensitive zone, naturally slowing vehicles and reducing animal-vehicle collisions—demonstrating how infrastructure development and wildlife conservation can coexist.
