Watch as we bridge the gap between sight and action! In this Occupational Therapy session, the child must track multiple moving balls and sequence their movements to catch them in a bucket. This exercise is a powerhouse for training the brain to organize and execute complex physical responses under pressure.
Brain Areas Involved in this Task:
Prefrontal Cortex: Responsible for high-level decision-making, planning, and sequencing of actions.
Basal Ganglia: Essential for the smooth initiation and control of movements.
Cerebellum: The brain's "coordination center," vital for balance, timing, and motor precision.
Therapeutic Benefits of this Exercise:
Visual Tracking & Timing: Improving the ability to follow a moving target and time a physical response accordingly.
Sequencing of Actions: Training the brain to organize a series of movements (track, move, catch) into a fluid flow.
Bilateral Coordination: Using both sides of the body to position the bucket for a successful catch.
Sustained Attention: Building the "attentional muscle" required to stay focused on multiple stimuli.
Gross Motor Agility: Developing the ability to move quickly and change direction to reach the target.
At Connecting Dots Occupational Therapy, we target the brain to help the body excel!
