The Best Fall Color in Nova Scotia? | Cape Breton Highlands

Описание: Cape Breton, specifically the Cabot Trail, around the Highlands is known for spectacular fall colours. But, we've never timed a trip right to be there at the peak of color change. We were pretty close this time though!

The leaves were not as vibrant this year as they are generally. This is thought to be due to several conditions over the year that were not favourable for change. A dry, hot spring, wet summer and lack of cool fall nights left the leaves a bit more dull. In many places, still green when coming off the trees. But, the Highlands are beautiful in any condition and we were happy to be there to see the foliage.

Campspots: MacIntosh Brook- Cape Brenton Highlands National Park. First come first serve campground with a handful of spots located at the Macintosh Brook trailhead. Washroom and common area with wood stove available.

Broad Cove Campground- Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Reserve online with Parks Canada or at the park when you arrive. In shoulder seasons it is pretty easy to get a site last minute, but during the main season a reservation is likely necessary. Washrooms, showers, garbage, water and common areas available. Serviced and unserviced sites. We like 99 and 101 (unserviced) as they are large, private lots.

Cape Clear, Inverness County. A popular overlook area on crown land and camping is allowed. If you plan to camp close to the overlook you will need a high clearance vehicle for the last ~5 minutes of the drive, otherwise park and walk in the last part. Note, there is unfortunatley a fair amount of garbage and dirty toilet paper here. If coming with dogs or kids keep a close eye on them due to the garbage and the cliff.
