Teachings from the Tzolk'in in Maya Cosmology

Описание: Synopsis: In this presetation, I will share the ancestral teachings from the Tzolk'in, the sacred 20-day calendar of the Maya, as understood and remembered by the Yucatec Maya of Belize.
The Tzolk'in is not just a way of counting days- it is a spiritual guide that connects us to the energies of time, the cosmos, and our personal path. Each day is goverered by a nawal, or sacred force, and a number that together carry messages for ceremony, healing, and balance.
Although this knowledge was once silenced in Belize, many of us are walking the path of revival and retrieval in accordance to and with the United Nations' Decade of Indigenous Languages. As a cultural guardian and spiritual practioner, I will share how we are reconnecting with the Tzolk'in through ceremonies, teachings, and daily awareness of time as sacred. I will also reflect on the role of women, elders and youths in restoring the knowledge to our communities.
This presentation include stories, symbols, and insights from my personal practice and how the sacred calendar aligns with nature's cycle - the sun, moon, the stars, and the maize. Maya cosmology teaches us to live in balance with all life and reminds us that we are not seperate from creation, rather we are deeply woven in it.
These teachings are not only for Maya peoples, they offer wisdom for everyone seeking to live with awareness, gratitude, and purpose in harmony with Earth and Spirit!

About the presenter(s): Felicita Cantun is a proud Maya woman, cultural guardian, and a community activist from Belize. Deeply rooted in ancestral knowledge, she works to preserve and revitalize Maya traditions, language, and spiritual practices. Felicita, president of the Northern Maya Association of Belize, is a founding member of the Kanan Miatsil Association, advocting for Indigenous rights, cultural education, and environmental stewardship. (Kanan Miatsil - Guardians of Cultura). She is also a storyteller, spiritual guide, and mentor of youths, sharing teachings from the sacred calendar and Maya Cosmology. Through ceremonies, workshops, and writing-including her upcoming book "Echoes of the Sacred", Felicita honors her heritage and inspires others to walk with pride and purpose on the Maya path!
