Diablo 4 Patch 1.2.3 on MacOS 14.1.2 Apple Silicon using Whisky App [Dec 2023]

Here is how to make Diablo 4 Patch: 1.2.3 work on your Apple Silicon Mac using the Whisky App v2.2.1.

UPDATE Dec 12.: it turns out that the „Environment Variables“ part is not needed. u/Gcenx explained why in the comments below. therefore I marked the part in my written guide here and on reddit https://reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/18....

We’re going to download Whisky first. You’ll find it here: https://getwhisky.app

After download unzip the downloaded file and move the app to your destination of choice. The applications folder for example.

Double-Click the App and confirm the security dialog.

Inside Whisky App:
Create a new bottle and name it to your likings.

Download the battle.net setup file here: https://download.battle.net/en-us/?platfor... and make sure you have the windows .exe and not a .dmg for Mac.

Since Whisky recognises the file format in your download folder you’re able to just double-click it to start the setup dialog.

Complete the setup process like you always do. You will end up in an error. Simply close the error message.

Right-click on your bottle on the left side and choose „show in finder“

Navigate to drive.c/Program Files (x86)/Battle.net/

Here you will see a folder named Battle.net.14542 (or maybe newer). This is the Version of battle.net that causes the problems.

Under https://github.com/Whisky-App/Whisky/issue... you’ll find an older version of battle.net provided by a user called akmad. Thx for sharing akmad!

After download you can extract the folder right in your bottles drive.c/Program Files (x86)/Battle.net/ folder and delete the newer version.

Inside Whisky App:
Click run in the lower right corner and navigate to the battle.net.exe file and open it.

Inside Battle.net App:
Enter your login information and confirm that it is you in your authenticator app. I found no way to make the black box transparent … but wasn't searching either… so you have to blind trust the auth-code.
Battle.net can’t find installed games so if you have a Diablo 4 Installation made with crossover or Game-Porting-Toolkit already you can move the entire Diablo 4 folder to your bottles drive.c/Program Files (x86)/ folder. If you make a fresh install just confirm that there are no games installed and install them in the app.
If you have a diablo 4 installation and you have moved it in drive.c/Program Files (x86)/ you can click on Locate and select the „Diablo 4“ folder. Diablo will be added to the installed games. If you don't have Diablo 4 installed yet just follow the instructions here and download it as soon as the battle.net app is working.

Now you’ll see a black window. Let’s get rid of it in the next few steps!

Right-click on your battle.net icon in your dock and quit it.

In Whisky App:
Make sure your Diablo 4 bottle is selected and click „Bottle Configuration“
Double-click on build version and change it to 19042
Change Enhanced Sync to ESync
Enable DXVK
Close Configuration by clicking the left arrow
Click Open C: drive to make sure that there is no Battle.net.14542 (or newer) folder
If there is a Battle.net.14542 folder delete it, if not …
Double click the battle.net icon to start the app
In Battle.net App:
After logging in we open the app settings
Here we uncheck the „Use browser hardware acceleration“ checkbox
Click „Done“
Choose to restart later
Quit App with the little red X in the upper right corner [windows-style]
Make sure not to just minimize to tray
In Whisky App:
Choose „Bottle Configuration“
Disable DXVK
Leave „Bottle Configuration“ with the left-arrow
-Right-Click on the battle.net icon and choose config-
-Under „Environment Variables“ click the +-
-Two boxes appear; click inside the left one and enter: WINE_SIMULATE_WRITECOPY=1-
-Leave the Config dialog with the left-arrow and-
double-click on the battle.net icon to start the app.

This should be all… unless you have a freeze like I had at tis point. In case of a frozen Whisky, Diablo or battle.net just open activity monitor and … brutal version: select all intel marked processes and force quit them. You can now start Whisky again and proceed over battle.net to diablo 4.

Keep In mind that battle.net tries to update itself. Before you start battle.net look inside the drive.c/Program Files (x86)/Battle.net/ folder and delete newer folders than the Battle.net.14494
