In this video, Creighton’s mother and father talk about how Dr. Peter Sun, MD explained that he might be a good candidate for a surgery called selective dorsal rhizotomy, which can help reduce spasticity. When he was old enough, Creighton had the surgery which was performed by Dr. Sun and his colleagues at Children’s Hospital and Research Center, Oakland one of a very few medical centers that performs this procedure which was developed by Dr. Warwick Peacock. This highly technical procedure cuts very specific nerves in the legs which are responsible for the spasticity.
The video explains what Spastic Cerebral Palsy is and how it can be treated by surgery. Creighton’s parents explain what it was like preparing for the surgery and how their son’s life changed after the surgery.
As you can see in the video, fourteen months after surgery, Creighton has shown marked improvement and has become much more independent in his daily life. His mother now believes that it he will someday "walk into a job interview and walk down the aisle on his wedding day."
