今回ご紹介するのはMGmidget MK-Ⅳになります。

1971年から1979年まで製造されたMK-ⅣはMK-Ⅲから大幅に改良されました。外観はほぼ同じでしたが、車両の前面にブラックアウトされたグリルが追加され、ホイールハブにMGのエンブレムが追加されました。

ミニなどでもおなじみレイランドの1275㏄のA型エンジンを縦置きに配置して駆動方式はFRとなっています。小型で軽量に加え、優れたハンドリングと加速性能を備えたMK-ⅣはMGmidgetの中でも優れた車両であると言えます。

今回の車両を見ていくとトレードマークのフロントグリルはオーナー様のDIYによってスリットタイプに変更されています。純正のグリルよりクラシカルで趣が有ります。

少しローダウンされていて、絶妙なスタイルを実現しています。

標準はツインキャブだと思うのですが、ウェーバー45Φのシングルに換装されてる為、心地よい吸気音を聞くことが出来ます。マフラーも純正品に準じたステンレスマフラーを装備しているとの事で乾いた良いエキゾーストノートを聞かせてくれます。

通常はご自宅のカーポートにて保管されているようですが、カーポートの中がガレージ化していて上にはチェーンブロックも装備されていたのでエンジンまで下ろせる仕様にしてある様です。

付属するストックパーツも多数あり、ある程度の整備記録やパーツリスト・パーツカタログなども残っていたのでそちらも一緒にお渡し頂けるとの事です。

【機関・足回り】
数回のクランキングでようやくエンジンがかかるという感じです。旧車なので当たり前ですが、エンジンを掛け損なうと暫くかかり辛くなるようです。

ブレーキにマスターバックは付いていないので流用でマスターバックを後付けしてあります。その為ボンネットを支えるロッドが使用できなくなっています。

燃料ポンプはNISMO製に交換されています。

キャブはウェーバー45Φのシングル換装されており、各部ジェット類もストックしてあるので一緒にお付けします。お好みでセッティングを出して下さい。

以前、キーシリンダーが接触不良を起こした事があるとの事ですが、接点復活剤で治まっている様です。また症状が出るかもしれないとの事です。

オイル漏れが有るようで、走行後にガレージに戻ると地面にオイルが数的垂れているとの事です。しばらくすると垂れ治まるとの事なので、オイルが温まって圧が掛かった時だけ漏れる様です。オーナー様はオイル量に気を付けながらそのまま乗ってらっしゃるとの事です。

【外装】
少し大人し目のオレンジカラーはクラシカルでレーシーな雰囲気に一役買っています。

ハードトップもステッカーで彩られて趣有る雰囲気です。

フロントグリルはオーナー様のDIYでワンオフになります。スリット状のグリルはクラシカルで何とも趣があります。

ボディはオーナー様のセルフ塗装との事で細部を見ると粗い部分が有ります。

ボンネット、トランクフード、ボディ側面やサイドシル辺りに錆の浮きや小さな塗装の割れが見られます。

アルミホイールは英国minilite社製の「ミネーター」を装着。
元々オリジナルのミニクーパー用に設計されたものですが、薄肉で軽量でありながら、強度が高いためレース車両にも多く使用されています。また、通気性が良いため、ブレーキの冷却にも効果が有ると言われています。

ハードトップはフロントガラスとの接合部にどうしても隙間が出来てしまう為、長時間の雨の中での走行では雨漏りするものと思われます。オーナー様は殆ど雨の日は乗られないとの事です。

ミラーは純正のドアミラーからバレットタイプのフェンダーミラーに替えられています。純正ミラーはストックしてあります。

リアの「midget」のエンブレムに文字の欠けが有ります。

【内装】
運転席はスピードウェルのシートに換装、助手席は国産車のセミバケットタイプに換装されています。

ロールバーも組まれていて、オープンカーの泣き所である剛性にも一役買っています。

シフトノブは社外品に交換されていて、シフトブーツはオーナーの奥様のお手製による物との事です。

ステアリングも社外品に交換されています。

インパネ周りは内張が無く粗い状態になっています。

[Institution / Undercarriage]
It feels like the engine finally starts after a few crankings. It's an old car, so it's natural, but it seems that if you fail to start the engine, it will be difficult for a while.

There is no master back on the brake, so the master back is retrofitted. Therefore, the rod that supports the bonnet can no longer be used.

The fuel pump has been replaced with a NISMO.

The cab has been replaced with a single Weber 45Φ, and we have stocked jets for each part, so we will attach them together. Please set up as you like.

It is said that the key cylinder has caused contact failure before, but it seems that it has been subsided with the contact restorer. The symptoms may appear again.

It seems that there is an oil leak, and when I returned to the garage after driving, there was a lot of oil dripping on the ground. It seems that the drip will subside after a while, so it seems to leak only when the oil warms up and pressure is applied. The owner is said to be riding as it is while paying attention to the amount of oil.

[exterior]
The slightly subdued orange color plays a role in the classical and lacy atmosphere.

The hardtop is also decorated with stickers, giving it a tasteful atmosphere.

The front grill will be a one-off with the owner's DIY. The slit-shaped grill is classical and indescribably quaint.

The body is self-painted by the owner, so if you look at the details, there are rough parts.

Floating rust and small cracks in the paint can be seen on the bonnet, trunk hood, body sides and side sills.

Aluminum wheels are equipped with "Minator" manufactured by British minilite.
Originally designed for the original Mini Cooper, it is also used in many racing vehicles due to its thinness, light weight, and high strength. In addition, it is said that it is effective in cooling the brakes because of its good breathability.

Since the hardtop inevitably has a gap at the joint with the windshield, it seems that the rain will leak when driving in the rain for a long time. Most of the owners say that they can't ride on rainy days.

The mirror has been changed from the genuine door mirror to a bullet type fender mirror. Genuine mirrors are stocked.

There is a missing letter on the rear "midget" emblem.

[Interior]
The driver's seat has been replaced with a Speedwell seat, and the passenger's seat has been replaced with a domestically produced semi-bucket type.

A roll bar is also included, which also plays a role in rigidity, which is a weak point of open cars.

The shift knob has been replaced with an external product, and the shift boot is handmade by the owner's wife.

The steering wheel has also been replaced with an aftermarket product.

There is no lining around the instrument panel and it is in a rough state.
