5 Essential Tips for Aluminum CD Stud Welding (Bonus Tip Included!)
In this video, we’re sharing 5 crucial tips for achieving strong, clean welds when working with aluminum CD studs—plus a bonus tip that can make a big difference in your process.
Here's what we cover:
Clean the Material – Start by wiping the surface with acetone or any solvent based cleaner to remove any residue or oxidation that could interfere with your weld. Avoid using abrasive materials that can leave a fine dust on the surface.
Use Two Ground Cables – Two ground cables help reduce electrical resistance, leading to more consistent welds.
Set the Correct Voltage – Make sure your welder is properly set based on the stud diameter. Always consult your machine’s manual for the recommended settings.
Check Stud Stick-Out – Position the stud correctly, typically 1/8" to 1/4" past the foot plate, to ensure solid contact.
Adjust Spring Pressure – Ensure your weld gun has the correct spring pressure for optimal stud performance.
Bonus Tip: We DO NOT recommend centerpunching for locating your weld studs, the CD stud projection is a very specific size, and centerpunching changes the weld settings causing inconsistent results. We suggest using a template tube adapter, we have several different sizes to fit your stud gun.
Whether you're new to CD stud welding or want to fine-tune your process, these tips will help you get better, more reliable results.
