The mismatched 1953 case halves now lay flat, next will be relocating dowel pins to bring into register the main bearings and transmission shaft bearings by adjusting the dowel pin locations.
This model of Harley Davidson engine is the first unit construction V twin combining the transmission into the engine. This construction makes the engine a stressed member of the motorcycle chassis basically holding the frame together and adding additional stress to the engine itself, the results of these stresses can seen as needed wider tolerances in the engine and crankcase warpage resulting in oil leaks.
This early 750cc motorcycle evolved into the iron head 900 and 1000 cc XLCH series, then the 883 evolution Sportster that was discontinued in 2022.
The K model flathead side valve motorcycles won flat track events into the late 1960s.
The K Model was a sport performance motorcycle of its time having 30hp capable of 100mph. The first Harley Davidson with front and rear hydraulic suspension.
