Skam is about the daily life of teenagers at the secondary school Hartvig Nissens skole in Oslo. The main characters differ from season to season (Eva in the first, Noora in the second and Isak in the third). Viewers can follow the characters of the show on Instagram or Facebook and stay in touch with them.
Throughout the week different scenes of the following episode are posted on the Skam official website in real-time, as well as text messages between the characters. The full episode airs every Friday on NRK3 and is a compilation of the clips posted previously.On average, about 192 000 viewers watched the first season, with the first episode being one of the most viewed of all time on NRK TV online. In the first week of June 2016, streaming of Skam was responsible for over half of the traffic on NRK TV.The show was reviewed positively and praised for dealing with important topics such as sexual abuse. Martine Lunder Brenne called Skam in Verdens Gang on November 2016 "Norways coolest TV series", especially for the handling of homosexuality in the third season. The newspaper NATT&DAG selected it as the best TV series of 2015. Starting with season 3, the show was able to reach also a foreign audience, and NRK was therefore heavily asked for adding English subtitles to the Skam episodes online.
